Remember last December, when it was announced that Millennium Films had set up a series at Fox called Rambo: New Blood, which would focus on the ex-Navy SEAL son of Sylvester Stallone's iconic action hero John J. Rambo?

Well, you can forget about that project, because it has evolved into a film, and while it retains the title RAMBO: NEW BLOOD the plan isn't to focus on Rambo's son any longer. Instead, this will be another movie about John J. Rambo, but Nu Image/Millennium Films intend to reboot the franchise by recasting the part of Rambo with a younger actor. After years of developing sequel scripts, Stallone announced his retirement from the role back in January.

The first reports of this news said the production company is "looking at Rambo as a character akin to James Bond". Before you start having visions of Rambo putting on a tux and hanging out in casinos, I think they mean that, like Bond, the character can continue on with different actors playing him. I'm not convinced there are many Rambo fans out there who share the company's line of thinking.

RAMBO: NEW BLOOD will be directed by CRIMINAL director Ariel Vromen. Brooks McLaren is writing the script.

I wouldn't want to even attempt making a RAMBO movie without Stallone, and I don't envy these folks who will be trying. Good luck to them, I do hope they'll make a cool movie.

Now, to wait and see who will take on the challenge of being the new Rambo. Stallone is a tough act to follow.
