Terminator 2: Judgment Day 3D rerelease coming in 2016

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

Arnie be back and bigger than ever in 2016. James Cameron, DMG Entertainment and Studiocanal are teaming up to convert TERMINATOR 2: JUDGMENT DAY into 3D, with a plan to release the film globally in 2016. With the series’ status once more in question thanks to another subpar sequel (TERMINATOR: GENISYS only made $89 million in the states), this is a good way to get audiences reinvested in the TERMINATOR franchise. (Although I thought the fad of converting old movies into 3D was history.)

According to THR, DMG and StudioCanal will work with Cameron to supervise and produce the 3D conversion using the latest technology from StereoD. A key market for the rerelease is China, where T2 never received theatrical distribution. (How hard is that to believe?) The Chinese evidently love themselves some Terminator.

“Next year marks the 25th anniversary of Terminator 2 and that seemed like the perfect time to bring it back but this time in an all-new 3D version,” said Cameron. “If you’ve never seen it, this’ll be the version you want to see and remember.”

No word on a release date yet.
