The F*ckin Black Sheep: Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation (Video)

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

This Friday will see the wide VOD release of LEATHERFACE, a prequel to the original TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE… which is different from TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE: THE BEGINNING, the prequel to the TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE remake, because this prequel deals with characters introduced in TEXAS CHAINSAW 3D, which ignored the existence of every CHAINSAW movie other than the original.

Yeah, if you're a stickler for continuity this franchise isn't the one for you.

One of the several CHAINSAW films ignored in the LEATHERFACE – TCM '74 – TC 3D timeline is TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE: THE NEXT GENERATION, which was filmed in 1994 but not given a proper release until years later. Even though it was written and directed by TCM '74 co-writer Kim Henkel, there are many fans of the series who would say that THE NEXT GENERATION deserves to be ignored.

I'm not one of those fans. Although THE NEXT GENERATION isn't a very good movie, I still have an appreciation for it because of the years I spent anticipating its release in my youth. I read about the making of it in a 1994 issue of Fangoria and then had to spend four years waiting for it to reach VHS. Four years of obsessing over this CHAINSAW sequel that was being kept on a shelf, four years of wondering what it would be like, imagining the possibilities. When I finally saw a trailer for it, I was blown away. When I got to see the movie itself in 1998, I was a bit disappointed. It wasn't nearly as good as I expected it to be. But I didn't hate it, and I try to focus on what I do enjoy about it, like the performance of Matthew McConaughey as one of Leatherface's crazy relatives.

Lance Vlcek is another fan who doesn't think TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE: THE NEXT GENERATION should be ignored by viewers, and he finds enough merit in it that he has made the film the subject of his latest The F*cking Black Sheep video. While he also admits that it's not exactly a good movie, he has an admiration for it. Check out the video below to hear his thoughts on this maligned sequel.
