The long-in-development film THE LAST WITCH HUNTER may finally be on track to commence filming according to Screen Daily, who announced this morning that Lionsgate International will be heading to Cannes to commence pre-sales on the Vin Diesel-starring action/horror hybrid.

We've been following THE LAST WITCH HUNTER for several years now, at one time reporting that WANTED director Timur Bekmambetov was in the running to helm the flick, followed several months later with the news that THE CRAZIES director Breck Eisner had solidified the helming position for the Summit Entertainment-produced film. We followed up that report with the news that Vin Diesel was rumored to be starring in the long-gestating project in September of last year and since then have learned that Diesel was still 'in talks' to headline in a recently posted article.

Now Screen Daily is reporting that sales for the film will commence at Cannes later this month with principal photography scheduled to begin in February of next year.

Based on a screenplay by Cory Goodman, THE LAST WITCH HUNTER tells the story of…

the immortal witch hunter Kaulder, who must team up with a Catholic priest and a benign witch to thwart an attempt by his foe Belial from possessing an all-powerful talisman.

Mark Canton, Bernie Goldmann and Vin Diesel will be producing with Eisner helming. Looks like THE LAST WITCH HUNTER wil finally be moving forward! We'll keep you updated on the film as we hear it.
