The Lone Gunmen set to return to The X-Files

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

This X-Files reboot is really heating up, so this means it can't vanish on us like Twin Peaks has been trying to do, right? Right?

Hot on the heels of the news that Robbie Amell and Lauren Ambrose have been added to the cast, it has been announced that the Lone Gunmen are set to return. The trio – composed of Richard "Ringo" Langly, Melvin Frohike, and John Fitzgerald Byers – are a group of conspiracy nuts (who get their name from one theory about Kennedy's assassination) who have repeatedly teamed up with Mulder and Scully over the course of the show.

They were so popular they actually received a spin-off show titled The Lone Gunmen, but it only lasted 13 episodes. But the trials and tribulation of early 2000's TV could fill a dozen articles. We're pleased to hear that they'll once again be teaming up with our favorite agents, even though they might have a little 'splaining to do when they first show up.

The series premiere, "My Struggle", centers on Mulder (David Duchovny) and Scully (Gillian Anderson) investigating Annet Mahendru's character, who is believed to be a "possible alien abductee," according to Joel McHale's character, a conservative talk show host who gives Mulder and Scully the tip to investigate her.

With original cast members Mitch Pileggi and William B. Davis also set to return, The X-Files will beam onto Fox with a six-episode season on January 24, 2016.
