For fans of the MORTAL INSTRUMENTS books, the character of Jace Wayland is as important to their lives as Edward is to Twi-hards or Katniss is to HUNGER GAMES devotees. So this should be big news for them... The rest of us can only shrug uncertainly.

The (first) film adaptation of MORTAL INSTRUMENTS has nabbed its "Jace" - a demon-killing warrior known in the books as a Shadowhunter - in the form of Jamie Campbell Bower. Young Mr. Bower has been on a pretty solid streak of late: He plays the villainous vampire leader Caius in the TWILIGHT flicks; portrays Gellert Grindelwald in both HARRY POTTER AND THE DEATHLY HALLOWS installments; and can currently be seen in the television series "Camelot", where he's King Arthur.

Eat that, Alex Pettyfer!

Bower joins Lily Collins in THE MORTAL INSTRUMENTS, which is being directed by Scott Stewart (PRIEST).

The synopsis for the first book in the INSTRUMENTS series, CITY OF BONES: When fifteen-year-old Clary Fray heads out to the Pandemonium Club in New York City, she hardly expects to witness a murder much less a murder committed by three teenagers covered with strange tattoos and brandishing bizarre weapons. Clary knows she should call the police, but it's hard to explain a murder when the body disappears into thin air and the murderers are invisible to everyone but Clary.

Equally startled by her ability to see them, the murderers explain themselves as Shadowhunters: a secret tribe of warriors dedicated to ridding the earth of demons. Within twenty-four hours, Clary's mother disappears and Clary herself is almost killed by a grotesque demon.

But why would demons be interested in ordinary mundanes like Clary and her mother? And how did Clary suddenly get the Sight? The Shadowhunters would like to know....

THE MORTAL INSTRUMENTS does not yet have a release date.

When I first started watching 'Camelot' I really didn't like him - fastforward a few episodes - and he's now great in the role. Grown into it. I hope he has more to do in 'Deathly Hallows: Part II' - he was on screen literary less than 2 seconds in Part I.
