The Mortal Instruments set to play on IMAX

Jul. 10, 2013by: Eric Walkuski

Sony Pictures announced today that the adaption of part-one of Cassandra Clare's bestselling fantasy-adventure novel series THE MORTAL INSTRUMENTS will be digitally re-mastered into the immersive IMAX format and released on IMAX screens across the country when the film comes out on August 21st.

What film doesn't get the IMAX treatment nowadays, that's what I want to know.

The synopsis:

Set in contemporary New York City, a seemingly ordinary teenager, Clary Fray (Lily Collins), discovers she is the descendant of a line of Shadowhunters, a secret cadre of young half-angel warriors locked in an ancient battle to protect our world from demons. After the disappearance of her mother (Lena Headey), Clary must join forces with a group of Shadowhunters, who introduce her to a dangerous alternate New York called Downworld, filled with demons, warlocks, vampires, werewolves and other deadly creatures. Based on the worldwide best-selling book series.

A Constantin Film International GmbH and Unique Features Inc. production,THE MORTAL INSTRUMENTS: CITY OF BONES was directed by Harald Zwart (The Karate Kid) and written by Jessica Postigo Paquette, who based the screenplay on Cassandra Clare's novel. The film is produced by Robert Kulzer and Don Carmody, with Bob Shaye, Michael Lynne and Martin Moszkowicz serving as executive producers.

Extra Tidbit: Be honest here: How much interest do you have in THE MORTAL INSTRUMENTS?

A LOT of these Young adult films seem to run on the similar formula: Boy/girl discover latent powers, entering and training in a secret society to save the world or some other, like Harry Potter, Percy Jackson, Sorcerer's Apprentice, etc.. It's going to get stale sooner than later.

I think it already stales. I got bored of Percy Jackson half way through the movie. If it's not for the casts, I might not have finished watching the movie.
