Director David F. Sandberg's LIGHTS OUT wasn't an earth-shattering film, but my theatrical viewing of it with an audience packed with people who had very vocal reactions to the scares provided so much entertainment that the movie did earn a spot on my "top 10 horror movies of 2016" list. So while I wasn't a fan of the first ANNABELLE movie, I am interested in seeing what Sandberg does with this year's ANNABELLE 2.

ANNABELLE 2's release is still several months away – it comes out on August 11th – but to help hold us over ComingSoon has gotten their hands on an image from the film that shows a young girl realizing that she is in the bad spot of being in a dark room with a possessed doll. The picture can be seen below.

Starring Miranda Otto, Stephanie Sigman, Talitha Bateman, Anthony LaPaglia, Lulu Wilson, Philippa Anne Coulthard, Grace Fulton, Lou Lou Safran, Samara Lee, and Tayler Buck, this sequel to the spin-off from THE CONJURING tells the story of

a dollmaker and his wife whose daughter tragically dies. Twenty years later they decide to open their home to a nun and several girls from a shuttered orphanage. When the dollmaker's possessed creation Annabelle sets her sights on the children, it turns their shelter into a storm of horror.

The screenplay was written by Gary Dauberman, who also wrote the first ANNABELLE. It sounds like he and Sandberg might have crafted a more interesting story this time around. In fact, Sandberg has said that ANNABELLE 2 is "the GODFATHER II of creepy doll movies".
