The release of Underworld Blood Wars has been delayed three months

Last Updated on July 31, 2021

Fans of the UNDERWORLD franchise are already overdue for a return trip into the world of warring vampires and werewolves (lycans, if you prefer), and they're going to have to wait just a little bit longer.

For its first four installments, the UNDERWORLD movies were coming out every three years. The first was released in 2003, with UNDERWORLD: EVOLUTION following in 2006, UNDERWORLD: RISE OF THE LYCANS in 2009, and UNDERWORLD: AWAKENING in 2012. But we didn't get an UNDERWORLD movie in 2015, and the one that had been scheduled to be released this year just got pushed back into next. Thankfully, it's only a three month delay.

Screen Gems/Lakeshore Entertainment has moved the fifth film in the series, UNDERWORLD BLOOD WARS, from its previously announced October 14, 2016 release date to January 3, 2017.

Coming out on January 3rd will put it head-to-head with another genre film, the long-delayed AMITYVILLE: AWAKENING. If, you know, that movie actually makes it to theatres this time.

Directed by Anna Foerster, making her feature directorial debut, from a screenplay by PRIEST and THE LAST WITCH HUNTER writer Cory Goodman, UNDERWORLD BLOOD WARS stars Kate Beckinsale as vampiric "Death Dealer" Selene, Theo James as her ally David, Tobias Menzies as the leader of the Lycans, Bradley James as a villain, Clementine Nicholson as a Nordic warrior, Lara Pulver as a fiercely ambitious vampire, Charles Dance as Covenmaster Thomas, and James Faulkner, Peter Andersson, and Daisy Head in unspecified roles.
