Weinsteins dust off Scary Movie 5 & Halloween 3, gives latter a release date

SCARY MOVIE 5? HALLOWEEN 3? For reals?

Found in a large release missive from The Weinstein Company, which mainly focuses on their Oscar season prestige pictures, it seems a couple of long-languishing horror projects are getting dusted off and thrown into production. How else can you explain a release date given to a flick we otherwise thought dead?

First up is SCARY MOVIE 5, which has NOT been given a release date. However, it does seem certain the film will be made in the near future. As purported back in ’09, it sounds like SCARY MOVIE 3 and 4 helmer David Zucker will return for part 5, though no word has been given as to the involvement of series mainstays Anna Farris and Regina Hall. We shall see…

Next up is HALLOWEEN 3. After Rob Zombie’s somewhat failed attempt at a franchise reboot, Dimension has decided to forge ahead with a third installment. In fact, they’ve tagged the film with an October 26, 2012 release. No director has been officially announced (Patrick Lussier and Todd Farmer were once heavily involved), but at least the studio is intent on releasing the damn film near Halloween…not in August like they’ve done recently.

So, which of the two films are you most excited about? I’d say HALLOWEEN 3 for sure, not only has it been given a release date, spoof movies are kind of tired right now in my opinion. Been tired, actually.
