SCARY MOVIE 5? HALLOWEEN 3? For reals?

Found in a large release missive from The Weinstein Company, which mainly focuses on their Oscar season prestige pictures, it seems a couple of long-languishing horror projects are getting dusted off and thrown into production. How else can you explain a release date given to a flick we otherwise thought dead?

First up is SCARY MOVIE 5, which has NOT been given a release date. However, it does seem certain the film will be made in the near future. As purported back in '09, it sounds like SCARY MOVIE 3 and 4 helmer David Zucker will return for part 5, though no word has been given as to the involvement of series mainstays Anna Farris and Regina Hall. We shall see...

Next up is HALLOWEEN 3. After Rob Zombie's somewhat failed attempt at a franchise reboot, Dimension has decided to forge ahead with a third installment. In fact, they've tagged the film with an October 26, 2012 release. No director has been officially announced (Patrick Lussier and Todd Farmer were once heavily involved), but at least the studio is intent on releasing the damn film near Halloween...not in August like they've done recently.

So, which of the two films are you most excited about? I'd say HALLOWEEN 3 for sure, not only has it been given a release date, spoof movies are kind of tired right now in my opinion. Been tired, actually.

Release date for SM5

Box Office Mojo has it listed for April 20, 2012. No doubt weed will be involved in the plot.

Two tickets, matinee tickets

Both look good, not great. Of course, these projects are at very early stages. Both projects need to find something original to do. But, yeah, I'll watch them both eventually.

Halloween 2

Halloween 2 had a nice nod and wink to the original but Zombie's version was completely original. Let's hope it as depraved and original as Zombie could have made it.

Not Sure...

I agree that the Halloween series badly needed some retooling after Resurrection, however Rob Zombies movies were awful in my opinon and i hated them, the main reason for this was SCOUT TAYLOR-COMPTON, jesus fckn christ did this b*tch annoy the hell out of me, hope they go down a different route with H3.
Hows about a direct sequel to Halloween 6? that would be sweet but would never happen.

If they're sticking to the Patrick Lussier/Todd Farmer script and concept of "Halloween 3" then I'm in.
I loved Zombie's films, but I'm all for them going in a more Carpenter-esque direction. And it'd also be great for the continuity, and I adore Scout Taylor-Compton and will be happy to see her back as Laurie.

Halloween 3

i didn't mind Zombie's films parts were quite interesting and enjoyable but they just didnt feel like "halloween" movies. Taylor-compton was down right annoying and awful. H2 wouldve been better had they killed Laurie and picked up Annie as the lead. it seemed pointless to bring her back just to kill her in the same way she was supposed to die in the first.

Scary movie can die an early death. I'd rather see Halloween.
