Theo James to star in the next Underworld film

I’m going to just tell you guys the bad news up front. It’ll be like pulling off a band-aid; the faster you do it the less it hurts (except not really). Things are starting to heat up for the fifth film in the UNDERWORLD franchise, but unfortunately, Variety is reporting that Kate Beckinsale will not return for her Selene role after starring in the previous films. What the hell is this? Beckinsale is like 100% of the reason why I watch these movies. What a bummer!

Theo James, though, is going to get all up in that UNDERWORLD business once again as the site says that the DIVERGENT star has just signed on to take the lead in the fifth film, so there’s that. He previously starred in UNDERWORLD: AWAKENING as a vampire named David. The good news? They’re aiming to expand the universe rather than reboot it, which is always nice. James will star alongside two new female characters who have yet to be cast. They plan to start shooting in the spring.

Cory Goodman will pen the script with Lakeshore's Tom Rosenberg and Gary Lucchesi producing. No word on a director just yet but I’d imagine we’ll be hearing of that news soon enough.
