Ti West set to direct an episode of Scream: The TV Series

MTV's Scream: The TV Series has been a very divisive topic, with some tentatively excited to see the property back in action and others viciously declaiming MTV's treatment of the material, including but absolutely not limited to that mask redesign, which looks startlingly like the Magic Mirror from SNOW WHITE.

However, today some news dropped that will turn the heads of even the most hardcore detractors: Indie horror maven Ti West announced on Twitter that he was joining the series to direct at least one episode:

The first movie I drove myself to see when I got my license was @wescraven's SCREAM. Now I'm directing part the TV Series. Life is weird.

Ti West, who also directed flicks like THE HOUSE OF THE DEVIL and THE SACRAMENT, proves that while MTV might be taking Scream in a different direction than we're used to, at the very least it's not ignoring the interests of the horror fans that comprise its dedicated fanbase.

The series kicks off after a cyberbullying incident results in a brutal murder, with the shocking violence stirring up memories of a killing spree from the past that has haunted some, intrigued others and maybe just inspired a new killer. It centers on a group of new teens — with two old friends struggling to reconnect at its heart — who become lovers, enemies, suspects, targets and victims of a killer who's out for blood.

Scream: The TV Series, which stars Willa Fitzgerald, Bex Taylor-Klaus, Carlson Young, John Karna, Connor Weil, and Bobby Campo, will premiere tomorrow, Tuesday, June 30th at 10PM EDT.
