Todd McFarlane says new R-rated Spawn movie will scare the sh*t out of you

This is what I like to hear!

First off let it be known that I don't tend to watch interviews with SPAWN creator Todd McFarlane. I just don't. Nothing against the man. My tastes run more horror movies than horror comics. That said, I may need to start checking out more of the man's interviews because this dude sticks to his guns and tells it the way he sees it, big time.

Case in point, his new interview with SyFy Wire. In the video he is asked how his new R-rated SPAWN flick is progressing and, boy, let me tell you that the man does not mince words. Not that he goes full Josh Trank here, but he sure as hell doesn't sugar-coat the story either.

All of that said, the bottom line is the potential film seems to be progressing. In one form or another. Below you'll find some choice quotes from the interview as well as the full video below. The gist of it is McFarlane wants to keep his baby his own, and he has a plan for the production, budget, and tone.

Again, you can check all that shite out below and then make sure to let us know what you think of SPAWN and/or Todd McFarlane himself on Facebook, Twitter, and/or Instagram!

Todd MacFarlane on his role on new SPAWN film:

So I’m going, I’m not selling it but if you want to see the rough draft, I’ll send it to you. But just so everybody knows, I write, produce, direct, non-negotiable. And if you add a moment's hesitation to that, we have to end this conversation right now.

On the film's budget:

I think all the hesitation goes away once you read the script. I wouldn’t ask to be a newbie director on a script that was going to have an eighty million budget for it. Why? Because as a CEO of my own corporation, I wouldn’t take that deal. I wouldn’t stick out $80 million and go, ‘they’re going to put a rookie and he’s going to basically be in charge of it.’ So I’ve created this tight little one that I keep saying, I think I can shoot it for ten.

Macfarlane then goes on to talk about how the film is NOT a superhero movie and more in line with a dark supernatural flick that will "scare the sh*t out of you." It is a very interesting conversation so I suggest you check out the full video below.

Enjoy!
