As we heard back in March, the TOMB RAIDER franchise is getting thrown into the reboot machine by GK Films (THE DEPARTED) with an eye toward releasing it sometime in 2013. The new movie took another step toward becoming a reality today, as GK Films recently announced that the writing team of Hawk Ostby and Mark Fergus have been given the task of penning the screenplay.
The two writers have worked on some high-profile flicks, having contributed to the screenplays of CHILDREN OF MEN, IRON MAN and the upcoming COWBOYS AND ALIENS. No slouches.
Fergus and Ostby said this in a statement: "We are thrilled to be working with Graham King and his formidable team -- and we aim to write an origin story for Lara Croft that solidifies her place alongside Ellen Ripley and Sarah Connor in the pantheon of great female action heroes.”
Those are some high aspirations right there, but I'm rooting for the duo to get it done.
Produced by Graham King and Tim Headington, TOMB RAIDER is scheduled for a 2013 release.
