It's been a tough task identifying which darkly-envisioned-retellings-of-fairytales are worthy of covering here at AITH. RED RIDING HOOD, despite being directed by TWILIGHT's Catherine Hardwicke, seems apposite. However, this SNOW WHITE AND THE HUNTSMAN piece ain't catching any love. But what about DEAD SNOW director Tommy Wirkola's latest, a 3D version of HANSEL & GRETEL: WITCH HUNTERS. Could be the bread winner of the bunch, if you ask me!
But screw me, what does Paramount think? According to Deadline, the studio has moved the release date for HANSEL & GRETEL: WITCH HUNTERS from December 21st, 2012 to March 2nd, 2012. Quite a bump!
Starring Jeremy Renner and Gemma Arterton (above) as the titular leads, WITCH HUNTERS chronicles the fairy-tale siblings 15 years after their traumatic gingerbread house incident, which provoked them to become witch bounty hunters.
With the lovely Famke Janssen (below) also onboard, it's the acting talent alone that separates this one from the aforementioned fairytale reimaginings. And with DEAD SNOW under homey's belt, what's not to love about the potential of HANSEL & GRETEL: WITCH HUNTERS?
As we work to bring you more updates on the film, take note: HANSEL & GRETEL: WITCH HUNTERS now start their search March 2nd, 2012.
