Trailer arrives for Neill Blomkamp’s Chappie starring Hugh Jackman

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

Quickly following up on the poster debut for Neill Blomkamp’s CHAPPIE, the first trailer has arrived and can be seen below.

To me, the film resembles SHORT CIRCUIT but with Blomkamp’s weird sensibilities tied in; make of that what you will. Blomkamp’s track record after just two films is spotty: DISTRICT 9 is a modern sci-fi classic, but ELYSIUM missed the mark on many levels. Where will CHAPPIE fall?

In addition to the trailer, a new synopsis has been released:

Every child comes into the world full of promise, and none more so than Chappie: he is gifted, special, a prodigy. Like any child, Chappie will come under the influence of his surroundings – some good, some bad – and he will rely on his heart and soul to find his way in the world and become his own man. But there’s one thing that makes Chappie different from anyone else: he is a robot. The first robot with the ability to think and feel for himself. His life, his story, will change the way the world looks at robots and humans forever.

CHAPPIE stars Sharlto Copley, Dev Patel, Ninja, Yo-Landi Vi$$er, Jose Pablo Cantillo, with Sigourney Weaver and Hugh Jackman. It opens on March 6th.
