Under the Shadow Narges Rashidi Babak Anvari

The Farsi-language horror film UNDER THE SHADOW, which our own Chris Bumbray gave a 9/10 review after catching it at Sundance, is set to receive a theatrical and VOD release from Vertical Entertainment and XYZ Films on October 7th, and in anticipation of this a trailer for the movie has arrived online.

The feature debut of writer/director Babak Anvari, UNDER THE SHADOW is

set in 1988 Iran, during the bloodshed of the Iran-Iraq War. Shideh and her daughter Dorsa start to believe their family home is haunted by “djinn” — evil spirits that are trying to steal their most prized belongings, including a treasured cloth doll.

Narges Rashidi, Avin Manshadi, Bobby Naderi, Ray Haratian, Hamidreza Djavdan, and Soussan Farrokhnia star.

The dark, moody trailer can be seen below, and makes UNDER THE SHADOW look to be a very unnerving viewing experience – for the war aspect / fear of being bombed even more so than the supernatural element.

This is one I've been looking forward to ever since I first heard about it, so I will definitely be checking it out in October.
