Trailer for horror film convention documentary Fantasm celebrates our genre

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

Like a lot of fans of our beloved genre, I try to take in as many horror conventions as possible, clamoring for a chance to meet my cinematic idols and pick up some cool memorabilia. There's just nothing quite like spending time with other fans who share my love for all things horror in the convention setting. That's why I'm excited to check out a new film from Kyle Kuchta that celebrates these events. Back in January we shared the news that a new documentary on horror film conventions and the devoted fans that attend them titled FANTASM was in production and today we have a look at the first trailer for the doc below.

FANTASM analyzes the tight-knit community that attends horror conventions in an exploration of how the genre brings fans together. Kuchta, who attended his first convention at age 15, says of the project…

"Fantasm was filmed over six conventions, and I felt myself growing closer and closer to the genre that we all love so much. It means a lot to be able to share that love with people, and that's what Fantasm is all about."

With production complete, Kuchta is currently focused on editing FANTASM. The documentary will be submitted to film festivals in the fall, with an official premiere to be announced. An abridged version of the film will screen for free at Syracuse University's Shemin Auditorium as part of the school's Class of 2013 Film Showcase on May 4th. Check out the trailer below.

In addition to legions of devoted fans, the documentary will feature insight from iconic actors and filmmakers. Interview subjects who have already participated in Fantasm include Heather Langenkamp (A Nightmare on Elm Street, New Nightmare), Tom Atkins (Halloween III, Escape from New York), Joe Lynch (Chillerama, Wrong Turn 2), Amanda Wyss (A Nightmare on Elm Street) and more.
