Trailer gives a look at Shyamalan’s Split, starring McAvoy and Taylor-Joy

After a streak of films that weren’t exactly well received by viewers, director M. Night Shyamalan won back some fans with last year’s THE VISIT. Moving forward, will he continue to earn more good will, or is he heading back into the slump? Some clues lie in the trailer that was released this morning for his latest directorial effort, a thriller entitled SPLIT.

Starring James McAvoy, Anya Taylor-Joy, Betty Buckley, Jessica Sula, and Haley Lu Richardson, SPLIT has the following synopsis:

While the mental divisions of those with dissociative identity disorder have long fascinated and eluded science, it is believed that some can also manifest unique physical attributes for each personality, a cognitive and physiological prism within a single being.

Though Kevin (James McAvoy) has evidenced 23 personalities to his trusted psychiatrist, Dr. Fletcher (Betty Buckley), there remains one still submerged who is set to materialize and dominate all the others. Compelled to abduct three teenage girls led by the willful, observant Casey (Anya Taylor-Joy, The Witch), Kevin reaches a war for survival among all of those contained within him—as well as everyone around him—as the walls between his compartments shatter apart.

I have to say, this trailer makes SPLIT look very promising to me, and I’m especially liking what we see of McAvoy’s performance as he brings his character’s various personalities to life.

I’m looking forward to checking this one out when it reaches theatres on January 20, 2017.
