Trailer: Maika Monroe vs killer smart house in Netflix’s Tau

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

This June, Netflix will be premiering director Federico D'Alessandro's sci-fi thriller TAU starring Maika Monroe (THE GUEST, IT FOLLOWS) and Ed Skrein (DEADPOOL) and today we have the film's trailer. It features Monroe as a street-smart grifter who is the latest victim kidnapped and held captive in a fatal experiment by Skrein. The only thing standing in the way of her freedom is TAU, an advanced artificial intelligence armed with a battalion of drones that automate a futuristic smart house.

Written by Noga Landau, TAU has the following official synopsis:

Once a street-smart grifter, Julia (Monroe) is the latest victim kidnapped and held captive in a fatal experiment. The only thing standing in the way of her freedom is TAU, an advanced artificial intelligence developed by Alex (Skrein), her captor. TAU is armed with a battalion of drones that automate a futuristic smart house.

TAU’s potential is only limited by his understanding of the world he exists in, but TAU is ready for more. Julia, showing resourcefulness and courage, must race against time to bridge the boundaries between man and machine, connect to TAU and win her freedom before she suffers the same fate as the previous subjects.

The titular TAU is voiced by Gary Oldman.

David S. Goyer produced the film with Russell Ackerman, John Schoenfelder, and Kevin Turen. Rhea Films co-produced, while Paris Kassidokostas Latsis, Terry Douglas, Jean-Luc De Fanti, Ken Kao, Dan Kao, and Luc Etienne served as executive producers. The project was financed by Hercules Film Fund and Ken Kao's Waypoint Entertainment.

You can check out the trailer below and then make sure to mark your calendars as the film will be premiering on Netflix June 29th. I for one will be making sure to check out this film, as the talent in front of and behind the camera is enough to seal the deal for me – regardless of its creepy-cool killer smart house plot.

By the way, the film is rated R for "some violence and language."
