UK Frightfest announces opening and closing night films

Last Updated on July 23, 2021

On of the premiere fantasy and horror film festivals in the world, Film4 Frightfest in the UK, is getting ready for its 12th year of existence this August; in anticipation of that significant event, the fest has just announced its opening and closing night films, both of which are certainly of interest to us.

Frightfest will open with the much-anticipated Guillermo del Toro production, DON’T BE AFRAID OF THE DARK. Starring Guy Pearce and Katie Holmes, the film was directed by first-timer Troy Nixey. It opens in the US a day later, on AUGUST 26th.

The closing night film is one that hasn’t been as high-profile as of late, but still peaks our interest: A LONELY PLACE TO DIE, starring Melissa George. The synopsis: A group of five mountaineers are hiking and climbing in the Scottish Highlands when they discover a young Serbian girl buried in a small chamber in the wilderness. They become caught up in a terrifying game of cat and mouse with the kidnappers as they try to get the girl to safety.

The festival runs August 25 – 29 at the Empire Cinema, Leicester Square, London. The full line-up will be announced on JULY 1st. Check out the official website right HERE.
