02.02.2010by: Jared Pacheco
It's been a long ass time since we've heard anything on I, FRANKENSTEIN. The last update came way back in August in the form of some concept art for the film. (Check that out HERE and HERE) Well over half a year later and we're finally getting some news on this bad boy!

Today a press release is making the rounds announcing that Lakeshore Entertainment will be bringing I, FRANKENSTEIN to the screen with writer Kevin Grevioux and director Patrick Tatopoulos! Exciting? Let's roll with it... If you're thinking to yourself these names look familiar then you've probably seen the UNDERWORLD flicks, right? Right. You see not only did Kevin Grevioux write the first UNDERWORLD but he also starred in it along with UNDERWORLD: RISE OF THE LYCANS. Patrick Tatopoulos looks familiar because he made his directing debut with LYCANS. Ring any bells? Great!

So what's the deal with I,FRANKENSTEIN? Well it's a contemporary fantasy thriller based on Grevioux's upcoming Darkstorm Studios graphic novel of the same name in which the original monster of Victor Frankenstein stands between the human race and an uprising of supernatural creatures determined to overthrow the world. Lakeshore president Gary Lucchesi had the following to say:

"Patrick Tatopoulos made his directorial debut with us on UNDERWORLD: RISE OF THE LYCANS and Tom and I were so pleased that we have been looking for another opportunity to work with Patrick. When Kevin Grevioux and Robert Sanchez presented us with I, FRANKENSTEIN we knew immediately that this was a great and original franchise that could best utilize Patrick's extraordinary talent and vision."

Tatopoulos adds: "It is a privilege to be given the chance to direct this highly visual piece. Kevin Grevioux has created something truly special with I, FRANKENSTEIN and I couldn't dream of a better team than my friends at Lakeshore to make this project happen.... The re-imagining of the Frankenstein mythos and the diverse creatures of legend is a dream project for me. I'm blessed and thankful that both Tom and Gary really sparked to the material and recognized this property's potential as not only a film, but a launch pad for various multi-media platforms. And a chance to work with such a visionary titan as Patrick again makes this experience even more amazing."

Lakeshore's Tom Rosenberg, Gary Lucchesi and Richard Wright are all producing with Kevin Grevioux and Robert Sanchez signed on as executive producers. Production is set to start this July so be sure to keep it here for I,FRANKENSTEIN updates as we hear them!

Extra Tidbit: Can you think of any other monsters that ended up fighting crime? Hellboy comes to mind..
