The great Arnold Schwarzenegger's latest action flick SABOTAGE suffered a dismal opening but that hasn't stopped Universal from looking ahead to a film many of you would be stoked to see finally happen: THE LEGEND OF CONAN, aka KING CONAN (a title that I prefer!). Now our pals over at TheArnoldFans have gotten word from producer Fredrick Malmberg and scriptwriter Andrea Berloff that interest in another CONAN adventure is still high and that we could see THE LEGEND OF CONAN coming at us sooner than we could've hoped!
LEGEND OF CONAN producer Fredrick Malmberg shared...
“The co-president over there at Universal Pictures is Jeffrey Kirschenbaum, and he’s one of the top two executive producers. He has a huge position there at Universal, and he’s always been a huge Conan fan. ‘I want to make Conan,’ he’s said many times.”
“We have a great story. Everyone loves it. This is a role that's perfect for him (Arnold) and he's very involved with the whole Universal team. It's the best team they have. Arnold has been very instrumental to being this together saying, 'We gotta make a good Conan!' I think if we do this right, we can do two more Conan movies right after. I think Game of Thrones also shows a huge interest in fantasy. I'm psyched about it.”
Hey, I'd be down for a new trilogy of CONAN films! Let's hope it happens.
Screenwriter Andrea Berloff has shared that the script for THE LEGEND OF CONAN is almost complete and that we are in for quite a treat:
“I am completely thrilled and honored to be writing Conan. My fingers are nearly worn down to tiny, bloody nubbins as I'm working to give this iconic character new life, while still holding true to the qualities that made fans fall in love with him in the first place.”
“I have a fantastic team of producers around me and we are all ridiculously excited about how our beloved barbarian is developing."
TheArnoldFans goes on to share that with major enthusiasm from the movie studio and producers for another Conan adventure, THE LEGEND OF CONAN (KING CONAN) will most likely immediately follow TERMINATOR: GENESIS! Let's keep our fingers crossed that we'll hear an announcement soon.
Although Schwarzenegger's last few films, including SABOTAGE, THE LAST STAND, and ESCAPE PLAN, didn't exactly light up the box office, Universal Pictures is smart enough to know Conan is a franchise event film with worldwide appeal, not just a generic action hero, and there are legions of fans that would welcome another CONAN film as long as Schwarzenegger was returning to the character.
So what say you? Would you plop down the cash to see THE LEGEND OF CONAN (KING CONAN) in theaters? Would you love to see Arnold return to this iconic character?
