Back in March we heard a rumor that Universal Pictures was planning on continuing - as unlikely as it may be - the WOLFMAN franchise. Perhaps more accurately, they were looking to get more mileage out of the title, with either a straight sequel or maybe even a complete reboot... Today brings some more news on that front, although the solid truth of the matter is still frustratingly unclear.
Moviehole writes that Universal was indeed at one point considering a sequel, written by someone named Michael Tabb, but now they're completely overhauling his script and aiming to create a completely fresh movie. As the site puts it, it's almost a reboot of the classic Universal monster movie series. If anything, this new film – they’ve yet to decide on a title though I hear “Werewolf” is popular -will share a link to the original George Waggner film (from 1941) rather than Joe Johnston’s ill-fated 2009 remake.
They go on to say that shooting will begin in the fall, with a director currently being sought. Take all of that with a grain of salt. I'm not necessarily buying any of this WOLFMAN reboot/sequel stuff seriously until Universal comes clean on the matter.
And if they are indeed going to call this WEREWOLF, they'd better recognize that an epic movie with that title already exists.
