Venom takes on enemy symbiotes in latest trailer

Marvel Comics character VENOM is coming to the big screen in his own solo film, one which drops the character's connection to Spider-Man, since Spidey is off hanging out with the Avengers in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The first trailer for the VENOM film didn't actually feature the title character at all, presumably because the effects required to bring the alien symbiote to life weren't at a presentable stage. Venom finally got some screen time in the second trailer… And the newly released third trailer turns into a gooey mess, as not only do we get to see Venom (and get to see him threaten to turn a person into "a turd in the wind"), we also get to see some of the alien symbiote enemies he'll be facing off with.

VENOM stars Tom Hardy as Eddie Brock, the journalist who gets unwillingly bonded with the alien symbiote. He's joined in the cast by Michelle Williams, Riz Ahmed, Jenny Slate, Reid Scott, Woody Harrelson, and Sope Aluko.

Directed by ZOMBIELAND's Ruben Fleischer from a screenplay by Scott Rosenberg, Jeff Pinkner, and Kelly Marcel, the film doesn't have much of a synopsis available. Just this:

One of Marvel's most enigmatic, complex and badass characters comes to the big screen, starring Academy Award nominated actor Tom Hardy as the lethal protector Venom.

Fleischer has said that the script was based on two Marvel Comics storylines, Lethal Protector and Planet of the Symbiotes, both of which involved Venom fighting several other symbiotes.

It doesn't look like Venom will be taking on his most popular villain, Carnage, in this one – it appears that they're saving Carnage for a potential sequel.

But before we can talk sequel, we'll have to see how well VENOM does when it's released on October 5th.
