Vera Farmiga says her Godzilla 2 character is a DJ for monsters

The Commuter Vera Farmiga

The GODZILLA franchise has a history of introducing characters who can communicate with or understand its giant monsters in some way, but I don't think the actors playing those characters ever described their ability as being like "a DJ for the monsters" until Vera Farmiga spoke those words while discussing her character in TRICK 'R TREAT director Michael Dougherty's upcoming sequel to the 2014 American GODZILLA film.

Speaking with Metro, Farmiga said,

I play a paleobiologist. She has figured out a way to communicate with the creatures and potentially control them using their bioacoustics on a sonar level. So she is like a DJ for the monsters."

That "DJ for the monsters" line will probably make some fans groan, although probably not as much as the suggestion that the character might be able to control the monsters in some way. I wouldn't be too keen on the idea of a monster being under the paleobiologist's control by the end.

Scripted by Dougherty and his KRAMPUS co-writer Zach Shields, this sequel follows

the heroic efforts of the crypto-zoological agency Monarch as its members face off against a battery of god-sized monsters, including the mighty Godzilla, who collides with Mothra, Rodan, and his ultimate nemesis, the three-headed King Ghidorah.

When these ancient super-species—thought to be mere myths—rise again, they all vie for supremacy, leaving humanity’s very existence hanging in the balance.

Farmiga's co-stars include Ken Watanabe, Sally Hawkins, Millie Bobby Brown, Kyle Chandler, Zhang Ziyi, Aisha Hinds, Charles Dance, Thomas Middleditch, O'Shea Jackson Jr., Randy Havens, Jonathan Howard, Anthony Ramos, Bradley Whitford, and Elizabeth Ludlow, with Jason Liles, Richard Dorton, and Alex Maxson providing the motion capture performances for the three heads of King Ghidorah.

Possibly titled GODZILLA: KING OF THE MONSTERS (there has been a lot of confusion over this), the film is scheduled to reach theatres on May 31, 2019.
