Brawl in Cell Block 99 S. Craig Zahler Vince Vaughn

BRAWL IN CELL BLOCK 99, the new feature from BONE TOMAHAWK writer/director S. Craig Zahler, was released on DVD and Blu-ray on December 26th, so our days of sharing news about it are pretty much over. It's available and ready to be watched. So this is a reminder that the movie has been released and should be viewed.

The film stars Vince Vaughn, and if you've been put off by Vaughn's comedy roles you'll be glad to know that the comedy Vaughn didn't show up for this one. Here, Zahler uses Vaughn's 6'5" height and size to portray him as an intimidating hulk of a man with the strength to beat the hell out of anyone who dares to square up against him. You can see this version of Vaughn in action in the clip below, where he participates in a prison fight that is not the titular brawl.

BRAWL IN CELL BLOCK 99 tells the following story:

A former boxer loses his job as an auto mechanic, and his troubled marriage is about to expire. At this crossroads in his life, he feels that he has no better option than to work as a drug courier. He soon finds himself in a gunfight between police officers and his own ruthless allies. When the smoke clears, Bradley is badly hurt and thrown in prison, where his enemies force him to commit acts of violence that turn the place into a savage battleground.

Vaughn's co-stars include Jennifer Carpenter, Don Johnson, Marc Blucas, and Udo Kier.

BONE TOMAHAWK became an instant favorite of mine, and while I wasn't quite as blown away by BRAWL IN CELL BLOCK 99 – it has the same 132 minute running time as BONE TOMAHAWK, but I felt the minutes a lot more in this one – I was impressed, and continue to consider Zahler one of the most interesting filmmakers working today.

A film that provided one of our "Top 10 Holy Sh*t Moments of 2017", BRAWL IN CELL BLOCK 99 can be purchased at this link.
