War for the Planet of the Apes role up for grabs in fan contest

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

Last Friday, WAR FOR THE PLANET OF THE APES director Matt Reeves clued us in to the fact that there would be an announcement related to the film made during last night's episode of The Walking Dead on AMC. What sort of announcement could a project that has only just started filming and isn't slated to reach theatres until July 14, 2017 be making to millions of viewers?

As it turns out, the announcement was that one lucky fan is going to win the chance to play an ape in the film.

Residents of the United States and Canada (excluding Quebec) are urged to make a YouTube video, running 30 seconds or less, in which they perform their best imitation of an ape. The contestant who most impresses the filmmakers will be flown to the WAR set, put in a MoCap suit, and given the opportunity to play an ape in a scene.

The contest announcement, which was made by Reeves and actor Andy Serkis, can be viewed below. Listen to what they have to say, get some glimpses behind the scenes of WAR, then head over to ApesContest.com to go over all of the rules before making your video submission.

Written by Reeves and Mark Bomback, WAR FOR THE PLANET OF THE APES stars Serkis, Woody Harrelson, Gabriel Chavarria, Judy Greer, Steve Zahn, Karin Konoval, Sara Canning, Aleks Paunovic, Amiah Miller… and whoever wins this contest.
