War for the Planet of the Apes

The first trailer for WAR FOR THE PLANET OF THE APES, the third film in the franchise reboot series that began with RISE OF THE PLANET OF THE APES and continued with DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES, has dropped online this morning… and I have to say, it looks pretty incredible. Whether or not there are more APES movies made in this storyline beyond WAR, this appears to be a great trilogy capper.

Written by director Matt Reeves and Mark Bomback, WAR FOR THE PLANET OF THE APES has the following synopsis:

In ‘War for the Planet of the Apes’, the third chapter of the critically acclaimed blockbuster franchise, Caesar and his apes are forced into a deadly conflict with an army of humans led by a ruthless Colonel. After the apes suffer unimaginable losses, Caesar wrestles with his darker instincts and begins his own mythic quest to avenge his kind. As the journey finally brings them face to face, Caesar and the Colonel are pitted against each other in an epic battle that will determine the fate of both their species and the future of the planet.

Andy Serkis, Woody Harrelson, Gabriel Chavarria, Judy Greer, Steve Zahn, Karin Konoval, Sara Canning, Aleks Paunovic, and Amiah Miller star.

Harrelson is the standout element of this trailer for me, as his Colonel character is presented as being a badass, detestable villain. I can't wait to see him in action for the full film.

We'll find out how the confrontation between Caesar and the Colonel goes down when WAR FOR THE PLANET OF THE APES reaches theatres on July 14, 2017.
