War is coming! Origin Releasing scoops up rights to book series Bigfoot War

Jun. 17, 2013by: Kevin Woods

Around here we love us some Sasquatchploitation! It seems that we can never have too many Bigfoot-themed genre flicks, and over the past few years we've seen quite a few come our way with many more coming (including Eduardo Sanchez's EXISTS and Bobcat Goldthwait's WILLOW CREEK), and today we have some news regarding another one stomping its way in front of the cameras this year as Origin Releasing has announced that they have picked up the motion picture rights to "Bigfoot War", the literary series by science fiction author Eric S. Brown inspired by the legend of a monstrous Bigfoot type primate living in and around Boggy Creek.

Casting has begun and production is slated to start in late July for this action-packed creature feature to be entitled BIGFOOT WARS. The film will be produced by Edgen Films and D Zone, the production arm of Origin Releasing. Tony Perez, EVP Sales for Origin Releasing, says of the projects inspiration...

“It seems that interest in Cryptozoology and creatures such as the Bigfoot is timeless and evergreen. It never dies.”

Too true. I'm always stoked for a fun Bigfoot-themed flick as long as it tries to bring something new to the subgenre and delivers plenty of Sasquatch carnage.

Here's the synopsis for the book "Bigfoot War":

Jeff Taylor was an ordinary boy growing up in the small town of Babble Creek, North Carolina, until one night his life was changed forever when a Sasquatch brutally murdered his family. Taylor fled the town, hoping to leave the painful memory behind. Years later, after two tours of duty in the Iraq War, he's back in Babble Creek seeking vengeance. Taylor's lust for the blood of the monster that slew his family sets in motion a series of events that soon has the entire town fighting for its life as a tribe of Sasquatches descend from the forests and hills into Babble Creek to declare war upon its citizens. Babble Creek is about to find out Bigfoot is very real and there's more than one of the creatures that want to fill the streets with blood...

Bigfoot War might or might not interest a person. The plot is much like the horror comic Ferals, and I like that comic. However, I do not like the Iraq War exploited. We shall see how well the film-makers handle the war and sasquatch subject matter.
ET: Abominable and Dear God No are both rather good.
