Although SCREAM 5 has not been officially greenlit yet, Harvey Weinstein was recently quoted as hinting at it happening, thanks to the strong international numbers of SCREAM 4. EW sat down with director Wes Craven to talk about the potential fifth entry, who is in no rush to make it happen.

"I'm taking the summer off. I directed and produced, and my wife [Iya Labunka] produced, both SCREAM 4 and the previous film, MY SOUL TO TAKE, and they were both very difficult films. So we just decided, 'You know what? We're going to spend the summer someplace nice and not think about film for a while.'"

So they guy is taking a break, but there's good news for Ghostface fans. Not only is he Weinstein Company is contractually obliged to give him "first dibs" on Scream 5, but he says it's "entirely possible" he would return to the series "if they get a script I'm interested in directing. The best situation would be if Kevin [Williamson] would come back."

Count me in for Scre5m.

I would rather them take their time to make a decent film than rush a new entry into production.

Love the series, although I was underwhelmed by the fourth one. Maybe I'll like it on second viewing.
I mean, if Final Destination 4 couldn't kill my desire to see another one, Scream 4 certainly won't.

I'm itching to see Scream 5, but it's good that they're taking their time to do it right. Instead of giving us a half-cocked sequel.

If Kevin does the script and it's not fucked with this time, i'm down.
