"X-files" fans will be happy to know that show creator Chris Carter has an idea swirling around for a potential third film. Empire recently caught up with Carter who talked about how the third film would explore the franchise mythology, "It’s really up to Twentieth Century Fox, whether they have the will to do it,” he told the magazine. “I think all of us are interested in putting the band back together. I have an idea for a third movie in my head. The colonization date has passed [in the series, the date for the alien invasion was December 22, 2012 - Ed.] and that is something we wouldn’t ignore. For the second movie, we only had the budget for a standalone story, but we want to go back to the mythology."

Not only that but he's already eyeing Simon Pegg for a possible role in the film if he were to accept it. "Gillian [Anderson] worked with Simon Pegg on a movie [2008's How To Lose Friends And Alienate People] and told me that he was a big fan,” he reveals. “We actually thought about putting him in the second movie, but there was no part for him. I certainly would think about him if we were to go forward in any way.”

Even though a third "X-files" film is still up in the air, it's nice to know that Carter still has a passion for the project. Also, how cool would it be to see Simon Pegg team up with Scully and Mulder — I'd watch the shit out of that!

A few things:

A) The X-Files Season 10 comic is bloody great so far
B) It would be unfair to the other people working on that comic (other than Carter of course) as well as the fans to not respect that new continuity, as it's the only thing we have at the minute
C) Let's hope the new film actually has a reason to exist, or just simply a point to make, unlike I Want To Believe

I can see Pegg as some kind of rookie FBI agents assigned to track down Mulder and Scully as something BIG is about to happen and he tag along for the ride of his life.

Simon Pegg is much better than Billy Connolly ..IMO

GREAT CHOICE...
of course who WOULDN'T tell Gillian Anderson they were huge fans of the show??? I mean... right? if you worked with her... of course you'd say " I'm a huge X-Files fan Gillian" right?
I believe Simon Pegg really is a huge X-Files fan and I think he'd be a great choice to star in it.
