Zack Snyder's Sucker Punch coming to Blu-ray this June in extended cut

05.23.2011by: Eric Walkuski

Zack Snyder's SUCKER PUNCH was not shown much love upon its theatrical release in March. (Although The Arrow enjoyed it.) Perhaps one thing standing in its way was the fact that we weren't treated to its intended cut; that will be remedied once the film comes out on DVD and Blu-ray this summer, although the latter format seems to be the one you'll want to see if you're a fan of Snyder's movie.

According to preliminary specs, SUCKER PUNCH's Blu-ray will get an extended cut when it hits the street on JUNE 28th. Said extended cut will be 18 minutes longer than the original 110 minute version. Additional supplements will include a "maximum movie mode" hosted by director Zack Snyder, and a digital copy of the film. Apparently, the DVD version will only feature the Animated Shorts: Sucker Punch Prequel Stories. (I assume that'll be on the Blu-ray as well.)

The synopsis: Born from the creative vision of filmmaker Zack Snyder (Watchmen, 300), this epic action fantasy launches from the vivid imagination of a young girl whose dream world provides the ultimate escape from her darker reality. Locked away against her will, Babydoll (Emily Browning) has not lost her will to survive. Determined to fight for her freedom, she urges four fellow captives – outspoken Rocket (Jena Malone), street-smart Blondie (Vanessa Hudgens), fiercely loyal Amber (Jamie Chung) and reluctant Sweet Pea (Abbie Cornish) – to band together and try to escape their terrible fate at the hands of their captors Blue (Oscar Isaac), Madam Gorki (Carla Gugino) and the High Roller (Jon Hamm).
