Zoe Saldana is a dangerous, beautiful flower in new Colombiana one-sheet

May. 24, 2011by: Jake Dee

Looking to prove she's a bona fide action badass is Zoe Saldana, doing so in the revenge-tinged assassin flick COLOMBIANA on August 26th. As such, Apple has just nailed a fresh one-sheet for the film, which you can leer at below. As you can see, much like Saldana herself, revenge is beautiful!

Also featuring Michael Vartan, Callum Blue, Amandla Stenberg, Cliff Curtis, Jordi Molla, Lennie James, Max Martini, Monica Acosta, Cynthia Addai-Robinson and Beau Brasso: COLOMBIANA centers on:

Cataleya Restrepo (Zoe Saldana) who at age 10 sees the brutal murder of her parents by a Colombian drug lord Don Luis. Cataleya manages to escape the bullets of the assassin and reach Chicago, where her uncle lives Emilio, also a gangster.

Emilio is doing its best to remove Cataleya from the criminal life, but she is determined to become a professional killer. At 25, Cataleya has become a real killer operating on behalf of his uncle, Emilio. But her sole desire is to find Don Luis to avenge the death of her parents.

Aside from the 9 year difference in the two female characters, how similar is this flick to HANNA? I do wonder.

COLOMBIANA hits the target August 26th.

Extra Tidbit: Zoe's first feature film role came in the 2000 ballet drama CENTER STAGE. Shamefully, I've seen that movie.

How similar is the flick to Hanna? Well, the main difference is that Hanna was an unusual fairytale-inspired take on the assassin sub-genre and was particularly well cast, directed and scored. Whereas Colombiana was about as mindless, derivative and generally uninspiring as it can possibly be, despite Ms. Saldana's charms. And this is not just based on my theory that directors who have to use silly names are not very good ("Olivier Megaton" - see also "McG"). I actually saw Colombiana many

I actually saw Colombiana many months ago because, like Battleship, the studio realised it was crap and so waited to inflict it on a US audience.
