We all have certain movies we love. Movies we respect without question because of either tradition, childhood love, or because they’ve always been classics. New Amityville film lands director of Never Sleep Again

It was only two days ago now that we shared the news that there was a new AMITYVILLE HORROR flick in the works called THE HAUNTING ON LONG ISLAND: THE AMITYVILLE MURDERS and this time the film would forgo the Lutz family and instead focus on the real-life murder of the DeFeo family. I was really excited by this news as I think that is the truly chilling tale to be told in...

New Amityville film to focus on real-life DeFeo murders

On November 13, 1974, Ronald DeFeo, Jr. shot and killed six members of his family at 112 Ocean Avenue, in a suburban neighborhood in Amityville.  The victims were Ronald Jr.'s parents and four of his siblings. All of the victims had been shot with a .35 caliber rifle at around three o'clock in the morning. All had been lying face down at the time of their deaths....

New Amityville: The Awakening poster has a legend

I have a new AMITYVILLE: THE AWAKENING poster to show you. It's down below. But in making this post I got a bit obsessed with the bulls*t history of the new AMITYVILLE HORROR flick. If you're interested, I'll go through it all here. Here is the sorted history of Blumhouse's AMITYVILLE: THE AWAKENING.  In December of 2013, we reported the new film was set...

Top 10 Gentle Horror Theme Songs!

What is it about a horror score that, when done well, makes the movie so damn scary? PSYCHO, JAWS, HALLOWEEN...these are three titanic examples of musical cues being as integral to the terror of their respective films as anything else. I suppose it's because they portend the very horror that the rest of the movie embodies, and through music, strikes a direct chord in the heart of the viewer....

Cool Horror Gear: Fright-Rags goes suburban with Amityville, Poltergeist II

Slasher villains like Michael Myers and Jason Voorhees are the big cheeses when it comes ot horror franchising, but haunted house series don't tend to get the same glamorous treatment from horror fans. However, Fright-Rags is here for the fans of the underdog franchises, putting together two new collections based on  THE AMITYVILLE HORROR and POLTERGEIST II . The...

It's the Booze Talkin', Dimension needs to stop dumping on Amityville!

When I was young I was convinced that THE AMITYVILLE HORROR was absolutely real. It was only a matter of time before I started waking up at 3:15 am and the walls bled - okay, maybe that didn’t actually happen. There was a ton I loved about this flick as a kid, and frankly I still do. Margot Kidder and James Brolin were great, and Helen Shaver is perfectly kooky. And of course, you...

Original Vs. Remake: The Amityville Horror

No one had a problem with the original Poltergeist taking the crown on our last Original Vs. Remake . I never thought for a second that the remake would win, however I also was a tad surprised at how enjoyable it ended up being. The film had a sense of fun and clearly respected Tobe Hooper's classic, but wasn't even remotely scary. And it's tough to win one of these battles if you don't...

Horror Movie Hotties: The Amityville Horror (2005)

Growing up, I don't recall ever having a babysitter, which either means my parents were either always there to watch me, or incredibly irresponsible. From the look of my stretched-out tattoos, it's probably the latter. My only regret for never having one, especially after age 12, is the opportunity I may have missed to have a hottie like Rachel Nichols rocking her bare midriff...
