In Theaters Friday is a weekly column that provides you with early word on the latest trailers playing in front of the newest movies.
Oh hells yes! Summer movie season is in full effect. That means less writing for me and more kick ass blockbusters for you. Not everyone is a winner but there should be at least two or three you'll wind up loving.

The widest release of this weekend is SPEED RACER. It'll be sparring with IRON MAN for box office dollars - and that'll be tough. While IRON MAN had a spectacular marketing campaign and a strong comic-nerd audience, SPEED RACER seems to have neither. SPEED RACER does have some cool ass CGI and a PG-rating. Early reviews aren't looking too favorable on SPEED RACER and it might just get swept under the swell that is IRON MAN. Trailers looking for placement include
INDIANA JONES AND THE KINGDOM OF THE CRYSTAL SKULL,
KUNG FU PANDA,
MEET DAVE,
STAR WARS: THE CLONE WARS,
GET SMART,
JOURNEY TO THE CENTER OF THE EARTH 3D,
WALL-E,
TWILIGHT, and
THE INCREDIBLE HULK.

The other new release of the weekend is WHAT HAPPENS IN VEGAS. Starring Ashton Kutcher and Cameron Diaz, this movie is squarely targeting women and teens as an alternative to the big action flicks. Early reviews, surprisingly to me, are positive and if people can get over their hatred of Kutcher, this flick has a shot at doing okay. Trailers looking for placement include
THE LOVE GURU,
THE HAPPENING,
THE ROCKER,
GET SMART, and
SEX AND THE CITY.
Have a great weekend - Vancouver here I come!
