Beck & Jack Black?
As wonderful as NAPOLEON DYNAMITE was, few people would compare director Jared Hess to Federico Fellini. One of the people that would (along with probably his mom and dad) is rocker Beck who said just that recently. And it's because of the high regard for Hess that he decided to hop on board the NACHO LIBRE train. Beck will compose the score for the film as well as contributing a number of songs to the soundtrack. While he's contributed songs to soundtracks before (most notably for some of Michel Gondry's films), but this will be his first time composing a film score. Beck has been working with Hess since the start of the year while also working on his next album with Radiohead producer Nigel Godrich. Mr. Beck tells Rolling Stone, ""No filmmaker since Fellini has had such an eye for amazing characters [as Hess]." He adds, "it's about monks who secretly want to be wrestlers. They have pointy white boots and tights under their robes." Beck comes off an album, "Guero," that had a distinctly Mexican/South American vibe with songs like "Que Onda Guero." NACHO, complete with all it's Beck-y goodness, hits theatres on June 2. In bonus news, expect a joint Radiohead/Beck tour this summer...
