Roth dials King's Cell
Eli Roth has signed on to direct and co-write an adaptation of Stephen King's latest novel CELL for Dimension Films. The story, which sounds right up Eli's alley, involves the terror that follows when a pulse transmitted through cell phones turns all users into crazed zombies. Dimension was working with King on adapting his novella 1408 and began talking with the author about getting Eli on a CELL movie. The Weinstein brothers were anxious to team with Roth after passing on HOSTEL thinking it was too violent and later admitting they had made a mistake. Roth's next assignment is a follow-up to HOSTEL, which he will begin shooting in Prague later this year. Of CELL, Roth says, ""I couldn't put it down. It was such a balls-out horror movie with a smart take on the zombie genre." Roth may write the script outwrite or may just adapt a draft depending on how much time he has after wrapping HOSTEL 2. No word on what's in store for some of the other Roth flicks in the works including THE BOX, SCAVENGER HUNT or THE BAD SEED.

Now, does anyone else think Christian Slater would be great in the part of Clay? It would be a great career move for him, lord knows he needs a decent movie (Alone in the Dark didn't exactly leave me smoking a cigarette).

This could either mean that it's a Roth movie based on an idea of King's Cell, which would fail the book. Or it's a King book and everything attacthed directed by Roth. Hopefully the latter, because Roth is a gifted director and would do justice in emulating a King book, but not trying to make it his own.
What I just said made no sense at all...Oh well.

Hostel wasn't a horror movie though. All it was was sex, tits, and sex for about an hour and then the last twenty minutes was devoted to torture.

That's not exactly what I'd call horror. You could make the case for it as a thriller, but horror? No.

Also, Stephen King puts his two cents down about Hostel over at his official website, he thought it was great film. So he's probobly thrilled about Roth taken helm of the novel.

On the other hand, it could be his first great horror film. That's actually horror and not just tits and sex.
I'll decide on this later on.
