Amanda Bynes, last seen looking incredibly hot at this year's MTV Movie Awards, has signed on to star in New Line's upcoming adaptation of HAIRSPRAY. The movie version of the Broadway adaptation of the original movie will be directed by Adam Shankman and will star Bynes as Penny Pingleton, best friend to the yet-to-be-cast lead of Tracy Turnbald. Bynes joines John Travolta and Queen Latifah in the film, which is also rumored to have Meryl Streep and Billy Crystal among its cast. Oscar nominee Marc Shaiman is writing new songs to accompany the songs that won him a Tony for the Broadway show. Filming on HAIRSPRAY is scheduled to begin later this year for a holiday 2007 release.
