Final Eragon poster Aug. 22, 2006

Update: I've been alerted by several people that I was mistaken in assuming there'd be a whole heap of dragons in the film. And that the main dragon is, in fact, a girl dragon. So I just altered the article slightly to correct the mistakes.

What does Fox's upcoming fantasy adventure ERAGON essentially boil down to? Dragons. Sure, there's destiny and magic and evil kings and a healthy dose of grand scale epic action but one thing that will not be in short supply will be good old-fashioned dragon action. Just look at that big scaly bastard in the recently released new poster below (which is really just a variation of the picture plastered on the film's OFFICIAL SITE transposed to poster form). She's all "it's my time, motherf*ckers!" ERAGON opens December 15th.

Eragon

Extra Tidbit: ERAGON is based on the book by Christopher Paolini.

Yeah, I'm a little worried about this one too. I haven't seen a trailor for it and it's four months away. You can tell Fox isn't putting a lot of money into this one. Still enjoyed the book though. Sure it's written by a young man, but a lot of us like the classic hero's journey tale. Star Wars anyone?

Good god, didn't anyone LEARN from the atrocity that was "Dungeons and Dragons"? This Mo-fo is so campy and over the top as to make it painful to watch him on screen.

And is it just me, or is this whole Eragon thing just some lame-o "author" throwing together a half-assed fantasy book just to suck in the cash that successes like Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings made?

I only got through the first hundred pages (probably less) or so of this book and I found it excrutiatingly bad. The story was pretty generic up to the point I stopped but it was okay - it was the writing which really got to me. The author was young when he wrote this and you can clearly tell. His style of writing was boring and lacked any sophistication at all. It honestly reads like a 12-year-old wrote it. I gave up on it but I'll reserve judgement on the movie I guess...at least the movie would eliminate most of the crappy writing but the first hundred pages of the story that I read played out like every other generic fantasy book. Nothing special, really.

Darn, I was kinda hoping they'd actually follow the book (by that "little-known" author who became an international publishing sensation at the age of 19).

*sigh*

How utterly generic can you make a fantasy film look? How immediately familiar can you make your poster? Like this doesn't smack of every Harry Potter movie poster ever made.
