Remember when Christian Slater was cool? Sure you do! It was the years between the time he did HEATHERS (1989) and the time he did TRUE ROMANCE (1993) and right before he started snorting a lot of white stuff, grabbing chicks when he was high and carrying concealed weapons onto planes (and I'm being nice by not mentioning his starring role in a Uwe Boll movie). Anyhoo, as we reported a while back, it appears as though everyone involved with HEATHERS is attempting to re-ignite their careers as writer Daniel Waters and Winona Ryder have recently been talking about a sequel to the cult classic. Speaking to "Entertainment Weekly" magazine, Ryder said about the sequel: "I don't know how much is official; it's a ways away. But it takes place in Washington and Christian Slater agreed to come back and make an Obi-Wan-type appearance. It's very funny." While it's nice to see Slater back in the saddle, I'm gonna hold out on the "it's very funny" part until I hear more about this sad attempt to regain...oops, I mean, this future film project.

Extra Tidbit: Christian Slater got the part of the "interviewer" in INTERVIEW WITH A VAMPIRE after fellow actor and friend, River Phoenix, died of a drug overdose.

Winona and Slater still cool
I still like 'em both. Anyway, you can't "tamper with" a previous movie by releasing a sequel; if the original was good to start with, it will continue to hold up. At least, my copies of Predator and Alien/s still play as well as ever. (Caveat: Lucas being the obvious exception...who else has time/money/interest to go back and re-shoot 20yr-old movies?

I remember when Winona Ryder was both cool AND hot. I think it was around the time the Christian Slater was cool too....sigh, those were the days...

Now then, about washed up actors trying to regain their careers by tampering with a successful hit from their earlier career. F them. F them very hard. Heathers doesn't need a sequel.

I'd go see something with WR and CS in it, but something new. Don't rely on the old stuff.
