First Avatar casting?

This little bit of rumor mongering has been around for a little while now but somehow it escaped our attention even though it involves James Cameron's upcoming sci fi epic AVATAR. Rest assured, though, slips like this are only bound to happen about five or ten more times…in the next month, tops. I kid, of course, because I'm so good-looking (huh?). In any case, Aussie actor Sam Worthington apparently dropped a little bombshell during an interview that he's up for a role (possibly the lead) in Cameron's action adventure. According to Worthington, "It's between me and a Hollywood name," the identity of which is unknown and, although he claims to be the underdog, given Cameron's intent to cast an unknown actor in most (if not all) of the leads, I'd say you, Sam Worthington, are the frontrunner (if, in fact, it's true that you're up for a role and aren't blowing smoke up all our asses). Considering the film will be in full-fledged production sometime next year, we should be finding out soon enough whether Worthington was up to snuff or whether Cameron decided to go in a less Aussie direction.
