Looks like Fox finally has a massive smash on its hands, as BORAT opened to record numbers on Friday, despite only showing in about 800 theaters. The film grossed close to $10M on Friday alone, which is a figure most were estimating that it would make the entire weekend. The film is now slated to make between $20-30M over the weekend and most likely finish in the #1 spot, ahead of THE SANTA CLAUSE 3, which many were expecting to finish at the top of the box-office, especially since it was playing in close to 3500 theaters and the animated film, FLUSHED AWAY, which was also playing in over 3500 theaters. Fox decided to release BORAT at a slow pace, with a limited release starting things off this weekend, but unlike SNAKES ON A PLANE, it looks like this film is for real and the hype is more than just hype, but actual interest! The film only cost $18M to make so much like the JACKASS movies, it will already be "in the black" after this coming weekend. Congrats to Sacha Baron Cohen and the filmmakers for their great success. I guess Borat will not be "execute" by the Kazakhstani government after all. Click HERE to see the actual box-office figures.

I went last night, and we had to wait two and a half hours to get in because the two soonest shows were both sold out. The theatre was packed - and it was one of the most enthusiastic crowds I've experienced at the movies. This movie is going to be a monster hit.

The movie itself? Goddamn hilarious, and highly recommended. What else is there to say?

Those are great numbers! for 800+ theaters!!! i saw it today, lots of laughs. maybe one of the most disturbing man on man action scenes ive ever seen.

I loved DA ALI G SHOW, and BORAT made me laugh non-stop, so this news makes me happy.

I'm excited to see what he'll do with BRUNO! Granted, it probably won't be as outright hilarious as BORAT, but I have faith in Sacha Baron Cohen to make another quality film.
