Johnny Depp It would seem that a natural progression for Johnny Depp after modeling Jack Sparrow after a flamboyant, slightly effeminate classic rocker would to be to actually play a flamboyant, slightly effeminate classic rocker. And, according to The Independent, that's exactly what he may be doing in the not too distant future. Depp's apparently been approached about portraying Queen frontman Freddie Mercury in a biopic being developed by Robert DeNiro's company, Tribeca Productions. Queen guitarist, Brian May, recently confirmed that the film is in active development, mentioning "Discussions are at an early stage" and had this to say about Depp possibly playing Mercury: "He would be a worthy counterpart for Freddie on screen. I don't think I can say any more right now." Oooh, very cryptic. In any case, the role seems tailor-made for someone of Depp's sensibilities. What do you guys think? Interesting concept. I think I might see this. No offense to the dead, but you're gonna have to ugly-up that pretty boy with some buck teeth at least to make this work.

I think appearance is the biggest question here. I love Depp and everything he does, but despite his flamboyant tendencies Freddie Mercury was a tough sorta guy. The poster below is actually right. From an appearance perspective, Borat would be best for the role. But I'd really have to see Depp in in that type of 'stache and haircut before writing him off. No matter what, I'll be excited...

I remember doing dream casts for band bio-picks a while back. I thought Jack White would kick ass as Freddie, at least doing a stage version, but i love the casting of Johnny. very rad.

If Depp takes the role he'll win an Oscar, no if's and's or but's about it. The Academy loves it some gay/retarded portrayals and Depp is the caliber actor to really run with it and give it some juice (eww...no pun intended).

holy crap. he does kinda look like freddy ! that would be a cool thing to see, theres no way he can sing like him though, thats too much talent for one person.
