Strike Back below!

You may have heard the rumor that Martin Scorsese, in an homage to Howard Hawks' SCARFACE, hid Xs all throughout THE DEPARTED. To be honest, I was too caught up in the movie to notice all the instances, but a reporter for the Miami Herald used his screener DVD to go back and capture some of the instances from the film. The idea behind the Xs is that they're supposed to signal "impending doom." It's a pretty neat read and something to look for when the DVD makes its way public on February 13th. Click the pics below to head to the article and see all the instances they were able to grab.

Extra Tidbit: Scorsese uses the Rolling Stones song "Gimme Shelter" in his third film with THE DEPARTED.

Ha, that's pretty cool. I agree that I was so caught up in the movie (for me it was the best movie of 2006) that I didn't notice the first time, but I love it when directors throw in little things like that. It's a good sign that they actually care about their film, and aren't just there for to yell "Action!" "Cut!" and "Where's my paycheque?"

What a misleading title...
Unsuprisingly, I thought this was going to be some new extra-violent director's cut or something. Oh well...
