Stardust gets an R?

Michelle Pfeiffer Schmoe Team LionHeart's acute eye recently picked up that a MPAA ratings update on The Hollywood Reporter (click on the first "MPAA ratings" search result but it requires a subscription) announced that the upcoming fantasy adventure STARDUST, a Matthew Vaughn-directed adaptation of Neil Gaiman's fantasy novel of the same name, had been bumped up from PG-13 to a solid R rating. And that, surprisingly enough, isn't the most kooky part about this ratings upgrade. The supposed reason for the bump in rating is "fantasy violence and risque humor". Good, bad or a big fat "who gives a shit?!"? Strike a little sumtin' sumtin' back, why dontcha? The deliciously risque humor and hardcore fantasy violence ensues August 10th.

That's Bollox..
This is a classic "Labyrinth" type tale of fantasy. Besides the slightly strange description of one sex scene in the book it's lighter than any Harry Potter movie could be. I'm sure they could easily have a PG safe shot of the sex scene.
It's such crap that a bunch of soccer moms and fucked up christian fundamentalists have so much influence on the fuckning world's...

Frankly, parents shouldn't go by ratings alone anyways.
Parents should just wait until there's a description on screenit.com because there have been some Rs (Air Force One,Conspircacy Theory) that should be pg13 and vice versa (Anchorman).

I'll say this...it would suck to be looking forward to it and being a Mormon at the same time since they (foolishly) forbid Rs regardless in that fucked up cult that I converted to years ago and rec...

Shelman, if you want to know what they look like, rent This Film Is Not Yet Rated off Netflix and thank me later. It's a great documentary as well which hits the nail on the head of just how fucked up the MPAA is. It's even been on IFC lately.

You know, I never ever looked at the MPAA that way. They virtually have full control over a film's gross revenue at the box office, just by slapping an R rating on a PG-13 film, if they don't want to see it make as much money.

I hate the MPAA! They have so much control, and yet we don't know know who the hell they are! When I think of the MPAA I think about a room full of stuffy 80 year old men, who don't have a clue about what deserves an R rating, and a what constitutes a PG rating! Hell The classic "Airplane" has a completely topless woman jump around directly IN FRONT of the camera, and that is PG! I think th...

Hell The classic "Airplane" has a completely topless woman jump around directly IN FRONT of the camera, and that is PG! I think the whole ratings thing is a Sham to begin with anyway. Just ask the South Park Guys Trey & Matt. They played ring around the rosie w/them on many occasions with their film "Team America." They gave an example that when they first sent it in they got an NC-17 to X rating, so they screwed around w/the film and even added some more explicit stuff, and it came back an R! We should do away w/ the ratings system (the way it is now at least) altogether. It is such garbage and it means nothing to me when I watch movies. I ignore it, and everyone else should too. Well that's enough of my speech.

I couldn't care less about the MPAA's ratings. They gave Casino Royale a PG-13 listing: a scene of torture, nudity, disturbing imagery, and action violence.

I'm all for an R rated fantasy flick. Hopefully it doesn't mean bad box office biz for it. I would hate to see that.

It's Neil Gaiman (who is the man!) so I'm going to see it no matter what they give it. I'd drop dead if they made an American Gods movie though. That would be the greatest thing ever.
