Strike Back below!
by: Omar Aviles Feb. 25, 2008

The Bourne Ultimatum Matt Damon was initially adamant that the recently released BOURNE ULTIMATUM would be the last time he'd portray the titular ruthless amnesiac superspy. He then started saying that maybe it wouldn't be so bad to once again duke it out with nameless thugs in international locales and if director Paul Greengrass was up for it, he'd probably, maybe be up for it too. Now, it seems, after perhaps Universal threw barrels upon barrels of money at him, he and Greengrass will be back continuing Bourne's quest to regain his memory (Jesus, how much time does this guy need to get his memory back?!). In an article in Variety outlining the future of Universal Studios, they mention the following: "More recently, Shmuger and Linde landed Paul Greengrass and Matt Damon for a fourth "Bourne" movie, even though the director and star seemed ready to wrap it up after three pics." So, it's not really "on" per se but it's getting there and if Damon and Greengrass are locked, you bet your ass Universal will do everything in its power to fast track this bad boy. Read the rest of the pretty interesting article HERE.

Extra Tidbit: Anybody read the books that came after the initially trilogy, "The Bourne Legacy" and the Bourne Betrayal"?

Screw van Lustbader!
I'm a little on the fence with this news. I wouldn't mind seeing another Bourne film, even though I feel the trilogy ended perfectly (could we have had a different end credit song for each movie?). I just want it to be done right. Like they've been doing. I loved all three films.

Unfortunately, I bought and read both of Eric van Lustbader's crappy Bourne books. Legacy was better than Betrayal, but not by much. The books are filled every b-action movie cliche. The man should strung and quartered for such idiocy, and whoever from the Ludlum estate that figured that he might be a good writer to sell the Bourne rights to.

I'm fine with this
Looks like you really are solo on this, hut. I LOVED the third one and watch it often on DVD. As long as Greengrass, Damon, and Gilroy stay involved, I'm absolutely fine with this. Plus, I doubt we'll be seeing this for a while. Greengrass and Damon are filming GREEN ZONE now for next year, then Damon's off to THE INFORMANT with Soderbergh, HUMAN FACTOR with Eastwood and Freeman, and an as-yet ...

Greengrass and Damon are filming GREEN ZONE now for next year, then Damon's off to THE INFORMANT with Soderbergh, HUMAN FACTOR with Eastwood and Freeman, and an as-yet untitled project with Soderbergh again. Plus, Greengrass is planning on doing a Vietnam film (take that, Oliver) based on the book THEY WALKED INTO THE SUNLIGHT (or at least I think that's the title). So, it isn't as if they don't plan on doing anything else. Both will be extremely busy til at least 2010. By then, we might be ready for Bourne to return...

I'm up for it...
... as long as they keep the quality intact. He doesn't necessarily need to have memory loss to make a 4th movie. Instead they'll just need to take it in a new direction. I just hope Greengrass moves away from "shaky cam". I enjoyed the last two movies much more on the smaller screen because I could actually see more of what was going on during the fight and chase sequences on my TV.

CRAP ULtimatum
The 3rd movie was shit. It's just one chase scene to another. If you exclude all the chase scenes, its totally pointless.
Now, a fourth movie? Maybe Bourne wants to find his real parents. whatever... won't be watching

Haven't seen 3 yet, but I'm kinda on the fence here
I've seen Identity (2002, 8/10) and Supremacy (2004, 8/10) and I do plan on seeing Ultimatum (2007, ?/10) soon, but without Greengrass, Limon and of course Damon on board in some form, I really don't have any faith in this.

F-ing right
I don't care what anyone else thinks. This news is awesome. I have hoped they do another Bourne movie as numero 3, ultimatum was my favourite movie of last year. And I have read Bourne Legacy (and i'm in the process of readying Betrayel) but I absolutely loved Legacy and sure hope they adapt that for a movie. So many twists and turns and the action is definitely top notch. I'll keep my fingers ...

Could be great
As I agree with most of the assessments below, I have to say that the books that came after can really turn the series on its head. He already has his memory back and broke the whole thing, they can now turn into them recruiting him to work for the government kinda of freelancing the jobs he wants or the ones he feels are righteous in his view. He will now be working for the govt like James Bon...

He already has his memory back and broke the whole thing, they can now turn into them recruiting him to work for the government kinda of freelancing the jobs he wants or the ones he feels are righteous in his view. He will now be working for the govt like James Bond and every now and then he will get flashbacks to things that connect or crossover in his past to his present working for the USA. Think about it what would James Bourne really do the rest of his life, he is a trained killer and patriot and that will always call him back!!!

Just out of respect for the late Robert Ludlum, Damon and Greengrass should call it quits. Don't bastardize the series like that damn author who continued the Bourne books after Ludlum's death, did! Just STOP on a high note.

Nooooooo!
In my opinion, the "Bourne" series is one of the few "perfect trilogies." I have no problem whatsoever with any of the three films, and have seen them all many times. A fourth film, however, is completely unnecessary! The third wrapped up everything perfectly, and even brought things full-circle with its ending. Goddammit, Greengrass, don't do this! It's not worth the risk!

fuck everyone
I was SURE that Greengrass and Damon would be men enough to call it quits, they made a solid trilogy and leave it be. This is disappointing news, I love the movies but I HATE it when trilogies are ruined by continuing sequels, does he really have much more in his fucking memory bank? I hope this doesn't happen because if it does I will lose serious respect for Greengrass and Damon.

great, all mighty dollar wins again. Isnt it bad enough that they have had a painfully boring story between great action scenes 3 times in a row.

I'd be "blah" about this news for many other film franchises, but there was something about the ending of "Ultimatum", with the first strains of the new version of that Moby song, which made me completely hungry for another one. Delightful!

If Greengrass and Damon are on, the movie will be great. Don't bother in reading the last two books, 'cos the script will be rarely based on them. If the movie it's on, I'm too.

Universal milking its franchises for all it's worth (i.e. jaws, jurassic park, shrek). Let it be. I don't understand how seeing people's faces and cutting more then bay in an action scene makes ultimatum the "best action movie ever made". sigh. I would love to see a new one with new editing, but seeing as they just won 3 oscars (with one being for editing) that will never happen.

I really didn't care for Ultimatum and didn't like the style. Lots of quick zooms and stuff like that. The story was ok for Ultimatum but the first was the best and that's probably all they really needed to make in my opinion. There were a few plot holes in the 3rd that I wouldn't mind being cleared up but I would rather have a different director...actually I would rather them just stop and ...

Sweet, more motion sickness to come! I will forever stick with my claim that Identity is far superior to both sequels, although Ultimatum was great story wise. I just can't stand Greengrass going with the handheld camera. I can't fucking tell what's going on in any of the action sequences.

The books after Ultimatum aren't very good. Betrayal is downright bad, but Legacy is an ok read

Geez. After Ultimatum, I thought there wasn't much left to do. Anyways, seeing how Greengrass has done nothing but good for the Bourne series, I'm not as apprehensive for a 4th installment as usual. I just can't get enough Bourne kicking other fellow assassin's asses with everyday household items, causing traffic mayhem, and making the CIA look like jackasses.

That's amazing! This series is great and the thrid one was even better than the first two, so I am hip for more, 4, 5, 6... as long as they can make them
