The first trailer for Jim Sheridan's upcoming BROTHERS, a remake of Susanne Bier's film of the same name, has surfaced over at "ET Online" and what starts off as an emotional war drama takes a swift and ruthless turn straight into near horror thriller. You see, the film stars Tobey Maguire as a soldier who goes missing after a tour of duty in Afghanistan. Presumed dead, Maguire's brother, played by dreamy-eyed Jake Gyllenhaal, goes to comfort his wife (Natalie Portman) and, naturally, a romance ensues. Which is just about the time Maguire re-surfaces, only so traumatized that he kinda loses his shit. Check it out below. The film opens December 4th.

Sounds like a(n intentionally) not-funny version of MY FAVORITE WIFE, or TOO MANY HUSBANDS...two great comedies about a man who remarries after his wife (seemingly) died at sea (or vice versa, in the case of HUSBANDS).

I own/seen the original Danish film with Connie Nielsen and it was a very good film. yes, this lloks like a shot for shot remake.

I don't care for remakes but I will check it out. C'mon it's Natalie Portman.

This film in the trailer looks very good. Maguire plays psycho really well by the looks of it.

Interesting that Gyllenhaal and Maguire should play brothers since Gyllenhaal almost replaced Maguire for Spider-Man 2, anyway this looks kinda good but the last film Jim Sheridan made was that 50 Cent film Get Rich Or Die Tryin', and that wasn't very... good, still could be decent I just hope Maguire can play the psycho well.

Shelman2392 the original movie is not Dutch. I'd know because I'm Dutch, and I have seen it. It's Danish.

I got worried when Omar said that it turns into a horror/thriller at the end but it looks identical to the original. Thriller-ish maybe but definitely not horror.

hmmm
at first, i was thinking it was gonna be a bit gay, kinda chick flicky, but then it actually looked quite descent, and i actually liked the twist, but i'd prefer it if film trailers didnt show you that part, cause now i'll just be waiting for it to happen

Already seen the original.
The original Dutch film was decent, but nothing more than that. Why this is being remade & in some parts almost shot for shot, Is beyond me. This is another in the long line of films that for some reason or another (oh that's right Hollywood has given up on ORIGINAL *GASP* ideas) just like the original except now spoken in English w/extremely subtle changes to plot. For all you haters My Great Grandfather's parents came from Holland, I don't care what language or where this came from, it is not worthy of a remake especially w/this cast! Guess they didn't see the original ho-hum film.

I wasn't expecting the trailer to turn almost into a horror movie, I thought it would just be a serious drama. Im not sure if I like it or not.

I admit the trailer aint the best but noone even seems to give this the chance it deserves.

Jim Sheridan has one bad movie to his name, but I'll forgive it, and to say that Tobey Maguire cant pull off a soldier is kinda stale since he's a great actor that just never proved he could pull this role off.

Couldn't thy have been a bit more subtle for a trailer? I liked the original a whole lot. I actually like Tobey and think he is right, i usually have a huge issue with Portman, but she isn't as obnoxious in the trailer as she usually is. Interested in reading the first reviews.

I knew Toby Maguire could play a total psycho.

But the trailer is nothing if not disjointed and confusing with regard to the mood. And yes, it does have three whole acts to it.
