Here comes another pointless remake from the studio that remade THE ITALIAN JOB and decided NOT to set the major heist in Italy. I guess The Los Angeles Job didn't have the same ring to it. Anyway, Paramount Pictures is planning a remake of THE LONGEST YARD with Adam Sandler's Happy Madison producing. The original YARD starred Burt Reynolds as a former quarterback doing time for shaving points in a game. Once in the clink, he's forced by the warden to join the inmates in a football game against the guards. The current plan - and a pretty terrible one, I might add - is to have Paramount team with their sister company MTV Films to have the film cast with "urban music stars" and incorporate the internet. How they plan on factoring in the internet to a remake of THE LONGEST YARD is beyond me. Sandler is wisely not starring in the film but if MTV is aboard, why not cast Kurt Loder in the Burt Reynolds role? Kurt is long overdue at his shot at big-screen stardom. The project is currently seeking a writer while Sandler wraps filming on 50 FIRST KISSES with Drew Barrymore.
